What is Cardblade ™?

Cardblade™ is a smart card with a rectangular cut-out around the location of the chip. Pushed out of the card, the cut-out becomes an extremely flat USB token that can be used as a strong authentication device. Like any smart card, Cardblade can be printed with extremely elaborate graphics and thus supports customer branding without any limitations. This is a brand new feature for a USB token and Oberthur Technologies is the only company offering it. Moreover, Cardblade is based on the most secure chip available, bearing Common Criteria EAL 4+ PP SSCD and FIPS 140-2 Level 3 security certifications.

How is Cardblade used?

Cardblade can be used in two ways:
 It can be directly inserted into a USB connector
 It can be read by a contactless reader thanks to an embedded antenna

Development Status:

The product is on its way and is in testing. Commercial launch is planned at the end of 2008.
